The Georgian aristocrats of Mayfair employed a large number of these men, who used to meet at a tavern known as the Running Horse in Charles Street, now The Only Running Footman. – Established in 1749. Built in 1749, this tavern was originally named ‘The Running Horse’, a popular hangout for the footmen of Mayfair where it eventually got its name.
